To save a quotation from a paper book, open Image to text in EasyReadAI's notes area, take a photo or select page images, check the recognized text, and save it as reading notes. The first recognition step uses Apple Vision on the device. Optional AI proofreading is a separate online action.
This walkthrough follows the iPhone and iPad notes flow. It is for capturing passages and pages you want to keep; it does not promise a complete scanned book, an EPUB export or perfect recognition of every layout.
From a book page to a saved note
- Open the notes area and choose Image to text when adding a note.
- Take a page photo or choose photos from the library. You can add several images to one task and continue adding pages.
- Choose the recognition language that matches the book and enter its title. Keep page numbers in the saved text or your own note if you need a citation.
- Let recognition finish. Open the text review and compare doubtful words, numbers and line order with the photograph.
- Edit the text where necessary, then save it to your notes. The flow preserves a separate note for each page that has usable text.
Use even lighting, keep the whole passage in focus and avoid the curved part of a tightly bound book. When a two-page photo produces mixed reading order, photographing one page at a time is a practical fallback. Check names and quotations before using them in an essay or sharing them.
Local OCR and AI proofreading do different jobs

Do not read “local OCR” as a promise that every AI feature works offline. In the current image-proofreading flow, the provider is Moonshot/Kimi and the request includes image data. You can finish the basic photo-to-note workflow without requesting that AI step. See the privacy policy for data handling.
Correct the text without losing the original recognition
The app keeps the original OCR result separate from the editable text and records edits. AI output also needs review: it can change a proper name or incorrectly join lines. Compare the resulting quotation with the photo before saving. If one page fails, retry that page; do not assume a successful first page means the whole batch was recognized.
Recognition quality depends on language, print size, contrast, orientation and layout. A photo containing columns, marginal notes or decorative lettering needs closer checking. This guide makes no accuracy percentage or universal handwriting claim.
Use the quotation after capture
A saved paper-book excerpt can be found in the notes area, filtered by book and exported as CSV or a PNG card. You can include excerpts with text in a reading quote widget on iPhone or iPad. This makes a passage available for later review without retyping it.
A photo note does not link back to a page in an imported EPUB. Include the physical page number yourself when it matters. Local storage also means that notes do not automatically appear on another device; export a copy before removing the app or changing devices.
Can I turn these photos into an ebook?
This feature saves reviewed text as notes. It is not a scan-to-EPUB publishing pipeline. If you already have an EPUB, PDF or TXT, use the ebook import and reader instead of photographing its pages.
